Where to buy one
- Kuta Art Market (Jalan Bakung Sari, right by Kuta Beach). This is the classic spot. They'll start high and expect you to haggle. (SatuSatu, checked 2026-10-25)
- Krisna Oleh-oleh. Hey, you can try the fixed-price stores like this one. They might be a tad more than the best price you'd get haggling, but it's easy peasy. Krisna is a big souvenir chain with a huge store on Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai and another on Sunset Road. It's also a good place to check what something should cost before you head to the markets. (WeekendNotes, checked 2026-10-25)
- Sukawati Art Market (near Ubud). Everything's up for haggling here, and they mostly want cash. (Bobobox, checked 2026-10-25)
Haggling
- Start somewhere around a third to half of what they first ask, and you'll usually meet somewhere around half. Guides don't totally agree on where to start. (Agoda guide, checked 2026-10-25)
- Have a look at the tag price at Krisna first, so you know roughly what's fair. (That's Bazza's haggling rule.)
- Bring cash, and small notes if you can.
- If you're buying for the whole crew, ask for a price on all of them together.
- And don't sweat it too much. Rp 5,000 is about 40 cents.
Sizing
Bali sizes run small, and they're 100% cotton so they can shrink a bit. I'd go a size up, wash it cold and hang it out to dry. (Tropical Living, checked 2026-10-25)
Are they official?
Not that I can find. There's no official Bintang merch shop in Bali that I know of, so the ones at the markets and souvenir shops are basically unofficial prints. The quality's all over the place, so have a look at the stitching and the print before you hand over your money. unverified
